Student, athlete, and father. Troy Brown a sophomore at Central Michigan University and linebacker on the football team fits that description. Troy is a father of his 1 ½ year old daughter, Ava.

Handling football, school, and being a father is difficult. He used to do it all and it almost came to point of him getting kicked out because of failing grades. He would watch her on nights then be up in the morning for football and stay awake during class. Ava now visits on the weekends and goes to his football games.

“She’s my motivation,” Troy said.

Ava’s mom and Troy are not together anymore, but are still friends. She helps him out a lot and brings Ava to come visit. Ava and her mom live in Flint, Michigan.

Football was the first sport he started playing. He has been playing for about 15 or 16 years. Central Michigan was his first D1 offer. No other schools really believed in Troy until he got the offer from Central. The NFL is “of course a goal.” Seeing former alumni like Tyler Conklin and Sean Bunting get drafted helped him realize how realistic his goal is.

Troy redshirted in 2017, his freshman year. Redshirting gave him an extra year of eligibility to play college football. In 2018 he played 10 games and made 1 start. He recorded 19 tackles and 13 of them were solo. So far this 2019 season Troy has recorded 43 tackles, 36 of them being solo.
